MiCareerQuest West Central 2023 Is A Hit With Students

May 12, 2023

Nearly 1,500 Students From 19 Schools Participate In Career-Exploration Event

MiCareerQuest West Central 2023 at Ferris State University was a huge success!

MiCareerQuest West Central is the premiere hands-on career-exploration and college-readiness event for high school students in our area. This year, Michigan Works! West Central hosted nearly 1,500 students from 19 different high schools across six counties at MiCareerQuest!

On Tuesday, May 9, Michigan Works! West Central hosted 40 employers inside Ferris' Wink Arena in Big Rapids that students were able to talk to and take part in hands-on activities! Our 40 volunteers helped to make sure the one-day event moved as smooth as possible!

"I think it's important not only for the students to hands on and see what's available right here in their neighborhood, but it's also very important for our employers to see the talent they have and can influence the youth of today for their careers for tomorrow," said Shelly Keene, executive director for Michigan Works! West Central. "Exposing the youth in ninth grade really helps them form their high school path, so they can learn today that maybe they do want to join a CTE next year."

Special thanks to our exhibitors, volunteers and generous sponsors for supporting MiCareerQuest West Central this year! Platinum sponsors included Cargill and the West Michigan Plumbers, Fitters and Service Trades Union Local 174. Other generous sponsors include Ferris State University, Nestle-Gerber Nutrition, Corewell Health, MiSTEM Network West Central Region, Mecosta County Development and the Michigan Energy Workforce Development Consortium.

Pictures and a video from the event are posted below. Please take a few minutes to check them out!
