Michigan Works! West Central works with everyone from recent graduates to seasoned professionals and all job seekers in between to find your next career path. The staff at all of our service centers can assist/offer the following:
- Adult programs that feature assessments, career counseling, job search assistance, resume assistance, supportive services, occupational skills training and much more. You may qualify for training through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, so we encourage you to click here to learn more.
- Young Adult employment services that include many of the same programs as adults with the addition of career preparation, school-to-career transition readiness, pre-employment, work maturity skills and support services, work experience and remedial education. - Have you been laid off due to no fault of your own? Our Dislocated Worker program can help you get training in a new career field!
- Free GED/high school completion test prep. To learn more, click here.
- Free use of our service center computers to search for jobs at Pure Michigan Talent Connect, post resumes online, research careers, soft skills learning and other job-related queries.
- Training programs and readjustment services specifically for workers affected by rapid response.
- WorkKeys testing to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate in areas such as applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information.
- Federal programs aimed at assisting veterans, migrant/seasonal workers and other similar workforce demographics.
- Welfare reform programs that promote betterment and economic self-sufficiency, including PATH, Food Assistance Employment and Training, and non-cash recipients.

Register For Work
After you file your claim with the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA), you must register for work.
As part of this step you will complete a job-seeker profile and upload a resume on Pure Michigan Talent Connect (MiTalent.org). If you have already registered, be sure to login at least once every 30 days to keep your account active. If you haven't registered yet, here's how:
- Step 1: Create a Pure Michigan Talent Connect account and profile at mitalent.org. Select "Create an Account," choose "Job Seeker" and click Sign Up. Once you complete your profile and sign Privacy and Terms of Use Statement, be sure to enter your contact information, account password and security questions, as well as enter your employment information (refer to your resume).
- Step 2: Visit your nearest Michigan Works! West Central service center.
- Step 3: Once your profile is complete, service center staff will verify you have registered for work. You will receive an email with that verification.
