To continually improve a workforce development system that produces a workforce with the required skills to attract, retain and expand business, and enhance our regional economy.

WELCOME TO MICHIGAN WORKS! West Central 

Michigan Works! West Central is part of the statewide Michigan Works! system serving employers and job seekers in Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Newaygo, Oceana and Osceola Counties. We are the first unified workforce development system in the country and an instrumental partner for developing Michigan’s economic future.


We are one of 16 Michigan Works! agencies across the state, each of which is locally responsive and demand driven. We exist to assist employers in finding and retaining qualified employees and assure that the local talent pool meets the needs of employers.

FREE SERVICES FOR EMPLOYERS
  • Post your company job listings to Pure Michigan Talent Connect while reviewing collected resumes from qualified applicants
  • Extend computer labs to your company so you can test your job applicants
  • Offer space for you to interview potential employees
  • Provide conference room use to your company for employee trainings
  • Assist in scheduling interviews at our service centers
  • Schedule applicant testing at our service centers
  • Conduct single or multiple employer job fairs
  • Review current/future employee skill levels through WorkKeys/CareerReady 101
  • Share local, state, and federal resources in order to better assist your company’s current/future needs
  • If the county doesn’t have an economic developer, act as the jumpstart for unique prospect situations
  • Initiate rapid response procedures and activities to those experiencing layoffs, closures, etc.
  • Supply information concerning unemployment
  • Impart information concerning the current labor market
SERVICES FOR JOB SEEKERS
  • Offer assessments, career counseling, job search assistance, job support services, and occupational skills training for adults
  • Provide career preparation, school-to-career transition, pre-employment and work maturity skills and support services, work experience, remedial education, and other assistance for youths
  • Extend GED/high school completion assistance for job seekers at our service centers in Baldwin, Big Rapids, Ludington, Reed City, and Shelby
  • Promote free computer access to search for job listings, post resumes, review career information, and conduct industry research through Pure Michigan Talent Connect
  • Provide training programs and readjustment services for workers who have been dislocated through rapid response and other similar circumstances
  • Offer portable credential verifying and a National Career Readiness Certificate, including workplace employability skills such as applied mathematics, locating information, and reading through WorkKeys/CareerReady 101
  • Promote veterans’ employment assistance
